Terms of service
Last updated 4 October 2026
In short: Geddes is in early testing. Access is by invitation and free. It is a research aid, not professional advice: check what it tells you against the official sources before you rely on it.
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you use Geddes (“Ask Geddes”, askgeddes.co.uk), a planning research tool. “We” and “us” mean the people who run Geddes. Geddes is in early testing: access is by invitation and free of charge. By using Geddes you agree to these terms. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
2. Not professional advice
Geddes helps you research planning applications, decisions and policy. Its answers can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. They are not legal, planning or other professional advice, and they do not replace your own professional judgement. Always check important points against the official sources — the council’s register, the published policy, the decision notice — before you rely on them.
3. Your account
- Accounts are for the invited person only. Don’t share your sign-in.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.
- During testing we may change, limit, suspend or end access at any time, including if these terms are broken.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Geddes for anything unlawful, or in a way that harms other people;
- try to get around its security, limits or access controls, or disrupt it;
- copy or extract its content in bulk, or use automated tools to do so, without our permission;
- upload content you have no right to share, or other people’s personal information without a lawful reason.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the files, notes and questions you add. You let us store and process them only to provide Geddes to you, including by sending them to our AI provider to carry out the task you asked for. We do not use your content to train our own models.
6. Information from public sources
Much of what Geddes shows comes from planning registers and policy documents published by councils and government. We work to keep it accurate and up to date, but we depend on those sources and cannot guarantee them.
7. Changes and availability
Because Geddes is being tested, features will change, and it may sometimes be unavailable or stop altogether. We provide it “as is”, without promises about availability or results.
8. Our responsibility to you
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss that comes from relying on Geddes’s answers, or from Geddes being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited.
9. Fees
There is no charge during testing. If that changes we will tell you in advance, and you can decide whether to continue.
10. Ending
You can stop using Geddes at any time, and ask us to close your account and delete your content by emailing privacy@askgeddes.co.uk.
11. Changes to these terms, and the law that applies
We may update these terms; if we make important changes we will tell testers before they take effect. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
